Therapy for Teens

Is your teen…

  • Overwhelmed by their worries, fears, and anxiety

  • Insecure, having low self-esteem

  • Saying negative things about themselves

  • Feeling restless, wound-up, or on-edge

  • Feeling sad or in a depressed mood

  • Seeming tired, or sleeping more than usual

  • Acting irritable and different

  • Spending too much time alone, isolating from friends and family

There is hope

Whether your teen asked for help, or you feel that it’s time for them to speak with someone, I thank you for taking this important step for your child.

By taking your teen to therapy now, you are giving them an opportunity to find relief from their problems, learn skills that they can use for the rest of their lives, discover who they are, and help them grow as people.

What You Need to Know About Therapy For Teens

The teenage years can be tough for everyone. These years are marked by physical, emotional, and social changes. More and more we are seeing that teens are developing mental health issues; in fact 1 out of every 7 teens experience a mental health condition (source). Maybe you have noticed changes in your teen, such as appearing depressed, isolating, losing interest in their hobbies, experiencing anxiety or panic attacks, or getting into problems with their peers or family members. Maybe your teen approached you and let you know they need to speak with a therapist.

The good news is your teen can get the help they need to improve their anxiety, depression, or other mental health concerns. When starting therapy, your child will meet with me and explore their issues, identify their goals, build a sense of self, learn new skills, and find relief from their symptoms. Most of this therapy will occur with just your teen, but you may be asked to participate to help provide information about your child, support them, and help maintain whatever changes they gain in therapy.

I am an LGBTQ+ affirming and culturally informed therapist and promise to provide your child with a safe place to explore and discuss their issues, regardless of their identity or background.
