Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect during the 15-minute phone consultation?

My goal during our first phone call is for us to find out whether we are a good fit to work together. During this call, I will ask questions about what you’d like to address in therapy, whether you’ve been to therapy before, and what your general availability is like. This is also a time where you can ask me about the work I do to help you determine if you want to work with me. I will also answer any questions you might have that aren’t answered here. Do you offer telehealth, video sessions, or online sessions?

Yes, I use a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform to offer video counseling called Simple Practice. I ask that you find a quiet, private, and safe place to log in for your sessions.

How long does therapy take?

It depends! There are a lot of factors that influence the amount of time spent in counseling. On average most clients spend between 3-12 months in counseling, however, once we start working together, I can provide you with a more personalized estimate. Progress will be measured regularly to determine when you are ready to leave counseling.

How often do we meet?

I have found that meeting weekly helps clients make more progress toward their goals. For that reason, I encourage all clients to meet with me on a weekly basis in the beginning of counseling. We will establish a set time to meet each week and that will be our recurring weekly appointment. Over time, we can decide together if it makes sense to reduce how often we meet depending on your progress and overall goals.

What can I expect during our sessions?

During the first few sessions of counseling, I will conduct a thorough clinical assessment. This means that I will ask you to share more detailed information about what brings you to therapy, ask questions to learn about your background and history, and help you identify your specific goals. Then, our sessions will focus on tools that you can use to make progress towards those goals and unpacking the roots of your problems to help give you more clarity, direction, and confidence.

Will I be getting any homework?

Yes! We only meet for 50 minutes out of the 168 hours available each week. I have found that most clients make faster progress when they do work in between our sessions that support the topics and tools we are addressing in our sessions.

What kind of results can I expect?

At the end of therapy, my clients feel more confident, more in control of their thoughts and emotions, and experience more satisfaction in their personal relationships. In general, what you get out of counseling depends on what you put in to it. My most successful clients are open to trying new things and exploring themselves in deeper ways.

What is your availability?

I see clients from Monday through Friday between the hours of 10 am until 7 pm. If you need to reach me between our scheduled sessions, you can reach out to me via phone or email and I will get back to you within 24-48 hours.

What if I need to cancel our appointment?

I have a very firm 24-hour cancellation policy. This means that I ask you to give at least 24 hours before cancelling appointments to avoid paying the late cancellation fee. I understand that life happens and emergencies may prevent us from meeting unexpectedly, so I ask that you always communicate honestly with me as soon as you can.

Do you take insurance?

I am not currently contracted with any insurance companies directly. However, I am partnered with Headway and can accept clients with Aetna insurance. Also, at your request I can provide you with a superbill, which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement using your Out-of-Network benefits. I can tell you more about this process during our consultation call or anytime during counseling.

What is your rate?

My rates for individual and couples counseling range from $150-175 for a 50-minute session. I collect payments through the HIPAA-secured app IvyPay and can accept any credit or debit cards for payment. I offer a limited amount of sliding scale therapy slots for clients with financial need.

Why the flamingos?

Growing up in South Florida, I have always felt connected with flamingos and the symbolism behind them are deeply linked to my values in life and therapy. For many cultures, flamingos symbolize balance, community, compassion, serenity, friendship, and romance. They can encourage us to hold steadfast, build strong bonds with those around us, and get in touch with our inner child.
