Couples Therapy

Something feels off in your relationship

  • Communicating with each other feels impossible

  • You feel like roommates instead of partners

  • It’s been a long time since you spent a week without arguing

  • Disagreements build up and become resentments

  • You wonder if you’ll ever get back to how things were

You are not alone

Many couples experience ups and downs in their relationships. Sometimes this happens because of stressful events, life transitions, miscommunications, or a lack of relationship skills.

If you and your partner are ready to address the issues in your relationship and put in the work to get it back on track, then I am ready to guide you using evidence-based, structured techniques that will improve the quality of your relationship.

What Can You Expect in Couples Therapy?

For a long time, couples therapy has gotten a bad rep. Many couples see it as a source of shame or expect an experience like they see in TV or in the movies. Couples therapy does not have to be a “last resort” or be seen as a failure in the relationship. In fact, taking the time and effort to make your relationship improve is brave and an extremely loving act. If you’ve made it this far, it means you do not want to give up.

In my work with couples, I use techniques from the Gottman Couples Method, which is based on 35+ years of research and has been shown to help couples develop the skills they need to succeed in their relationships.

In our first few sessions working together, I will meet with you and your partner together and individually to get an assessment of where you are in the relationship and what you would like to improve. From there, our sessions will focus on teaching skills like communication, conflict resolution, compromise, and more, depending on what your specific needs are as a couple.

I am an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist and have experience in working with non-monogamous couples and individuals. I continue to educate myself as a therapist to provide you with a safe, affirming, and knowledgeable space to discuss the issues that may occur in these communities or relationship styles.
